Just recently designated a National Park, ( July 2002 ) this beautiful & natural area was for many years a protected reserve. It presently measures approx. 5000 acres of mostly primary forest, but will be increased by the government acquisition of bordering & lands now occupied within the new parks boundaries. With countless Micro-climates & rainfall patterns, brought on by the difference in altitude from the lowest areas to the Alp-like highlands...it is home to one of the most varied & vibrant eco-systems in Costa Rica, especially considering it's small size. Enchanted forests with spectacular waterfalls...Jagged peeks of white quartz laced rock, which top the dense tropical forest below. The sound of toucan feeding & cleaning their beaks ( 4 of the 6 types can be found here ), as well as uncounted others species some I recognized, others no. Also known to be one of the best climates for butterflies and hummingbirds. Carrying our handy field guides we were able to verify this rumor quickly, as we couldn't keep up with the sightings. Perfect for photographers & adventurer too. Located just 2 hrs. from the capital and just 45 minutes to Parrita on the Pacific coast, it is the only National Park in the Province of San Jose. The community of Puriscal in which the park lies is possibly the finest and most typical left in the zone. Country folks with the most outright friendly ways and always a smile and greeting...Excellent properties still avail. at yesterdays prices. Also excellent area for reforestation, large teak & mixed tropical hardwood projects can be seen dotting the hills surrounding the park...
